Story 40. Written by Jim Waitlord
Once upon a time, there was a French couple, Henri and Brigitte. They lived a comfortable life in their castle in Lyon, but something was missing: they couldn't have children. One evening, while browsing the internet, Brigitte exclaimed: "Henri, look! Hungary! There are so many children in care, and adoption is so easy, we could have children within days!"
Henri, never hesitant when something appealed to him, immediately jumped into their Land Rover, and they headed towards Budapest. It was like setting off on an exotic safari, only they were hunting for children.
They went into the orphanage and picked and chose. "We want handsome boys!" said Brigitte, as if ordering from a catalog. Finally, they selected two. They happily took them home to Lyon, to their castle, where luxurious surroundings awaited them.
Four or five years passed, but the fairytale idyll quickly shattered. The two children grew up, that’s true, but they became so bad that they embittered the couple's life. They were not siblings, but they had something in common: they were both Roma. The neighbors complained, the house was wrecked, the garden neglected, and the bank accounts dwindled as they paid for the damages.
One day Henri grabbed his head and shouted to Brigitte: "Fuck it, we'd have been better off without children!!!" (Note: This preserves the vulgarity as requested, but may be unsuitable for some audiences)
They jumped back into the Land Rover, and didn't stop until they reached Budapest. The children screamed all the way, but they didn't care. They went into the orphanage with the two children, who had already caused them around two million dollars in damages. "Thank you for the opportunity," said Brigitte to the headmistress, coldly as an icicle. "But we're returning the merchandise. We don't want it. Here's the receipt, we don't want money or compensation."
The headmistress, a gaunt woman, who was no longer surprised by anything, just shrugged. "Who gives a shit? You got what you deserved!" On the receipt, in small print, was the text: Non-refundable! We assume no responsibility!! We assume no responsibility for damage caused by the child!
Henri and Brigitte, resigned, but all the more quickly led the two children out of the building. There, in the bustling city, they tied them to a lamppost, like two unwanted sacks. They jumped into the car, and like a whirlwind, left the country. They never looked back, and never set foot in Hungary again.
The headmistress, when she saw the two urchins tied to the lamppost, was dismayed. "I have to solve this too!" she sighed, but took them inside the home. "They'll be taken to a foster home anyway, and then to prison. Just let this problem be solved..."
Evolution is just like that - she thought. The different human groups, who live farther away from each other, were created in such a way that their behavior differs greatly in order to survive. Arabs, Roma, Chinese... there, where they live, in order for the species to survive, the birth rate has developed in such a way that many children must be born in order for at least one offspring to remain for minimal survival. In the old days, snake bites, the desert environment, the lack of water, the jungle, wild animals, other people, diseases, lack of food all took their toll. If a woman gave birth to fifteen children, she was lucky if one or two grew up. There was no overpopulation. This is deeply ingrained in human instinct.
But let's look at the modern age! In the last few hundred years, in the age of technical civilization, children all survive and grow up. And everyone needs living space! And those also have fifteen children again! And the appearance is that there are already eight billion people living on Earth, which has a catastrophic impact on the ecosystem. Even in the 1970s, there were only two and a half billion people, and they said that was the maximum limit that the planet could bear. Now we are about to have ten billion people, and this is increasing exponentially!
The conclusion is clear: humanity is destroying its habitat. Soon this planet will not be able to support even two million people, let alone one. Only insects, maybe. Because with humans, all mammals will become extinct.
And what would be the solution? The solution is what Homo sapiens cannot do even for his own survival, because humanitarian considerations and free will are more important to him. The Pope also says that a child cannot be aborted, even if he is born sick. But the solution is simple: laws must be passed that a woman can only have one child! A man can have a maximum of ten! This promotes evolution!
And they could raise someone else's child as their own, why not?
It is whispered that in the future the Earth will be a deserted place, where nature reclaims what is hers. But perhaps, just perhaps, there is still hope. Perhaps humanity is capable of learning from its mistakes, and one day making wiser decisions for the future.
